Interviewing writer Joan Morgan, author of She Begat This: 20 Years of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill

Tomorrow evening. Dumbo House. Me, having an intimate chat with the amazing @joanmorgan, one of the original writers at VIBE magazine (a magazine I read religiously for many years) and author of “She Begat This: 20 Years of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.” Joan is the original hip hop feminist (yes, you can now even get a PhD in hip hop feminism!) and her analyses and insight are just beyond on point. (Peep her first book: “When Chickenheads Come Home to Roost: A Hip-Hop Feminist Breaks It Down”) BTW – “She Begat This…” is an excellent read on so many levels. For what this album means in terms of its aesthetics, sounds, its impact on the culture, its sensibilities and what it really did for the time and beyond…! If you also know me, you’ll know I was an original Fugees fan before they had any mainstream success and a die hard Lauryn Hill lover…. so, it’s fascinating for me to read this book. If you love music in general though you will enjoy it. And I’m loving curating the playlist for the event! So much goodness from the 90s!! I can’t wait!! 🙌🏾❤️
